Housing outreach & Pet education

We’re excited to announce a new initiative by KARE, aimed at empowering pet parents who are unhoused or in transitional housing. Through training sessions and by providing information to connect clients with existing resources, our goal is to help these individuals better understand their dogs’ behavior and how to deal with the surrounding stresses. We aim to help enhance stability and well-being during challenging times.

In addition, KARE is a member of the steering committee for the Pacific Building Project, a new co-shelter in Port Orchard set to open in November. This shelter will be the first in Kitsap County to allow individuals to shelter with their pets.

Partnering with the community

KARE recently provided educational presentations to Kitsap Community ResourcesKitsap Rescue Mission, and Kitsap Mental Health. KARE is collaborating with several of these transitional housing providers to support the unique needs of these pet owners. St. Vincent de Paul is planning new transitional housing to begin construction next year, while Kitsap Mental Health’s Pendleton Place already has four potential beneficiaries of this new initiative.

These efforts reflect our commitment to addressing the needs of our community both people and their pets, fostering a more supportive environment.

How can you help?

We ask for your assistance so that KARE can continue supporting these programs.
